Episode 55 - Snow Day Alcohol Talk
03Feb08

It’s snowing in Tokyo, so what better way to spend it than bring you all with me on a trip to McDonalds for breakfast. In this episode, I tough it out through the muck and power-line slush bombs to chat about Japanese people and alcohol consumption. This episode is not very organized but there’s plenty to listen to and some music mixed in as well. Enjoy.

Wow, talk about a fast turn around time. It’s still snowing as the download begins.
I look forward to listening.
Best of all, I got in before San with the first comment as he is probably sun-bathing at this very moment.

Asian people lack the acetaldehyde dehydrogenase protein, and while its a big pain in the butt, I think it is harder for Asian people to get hungover or become alcoholics because they can’t imbibe as much, so its not a complete loss.

vomiting girl ftw!

Harder to become alcoholics? Hmmmm… not from what I have seen
I wish you had photos of the vomiting girl. That would be brilliant! The best bits of Jackass were always the vomiting scenes… Or is that just me?
I hope the salad wrap came with bacon!
And so Scott. Someone has to make the sun feel needed. It should be me!

A very interesting episode Christopher. Loved hearing the crunch and sploosh of the snow/slush as you were walking, as well as the short discussion in McD’s. Was wondering though — sounded like a metallic clang when you closed your front door. Is it metal, and is this typical for japanese housing?

Yeah, very good ears. Its a metal door with a touchpad keyless entry. Not sure if its really typical or not though. I think most new apartment buildings have metal doors since they are more fire-proof.

All the apartments in Korea have metal doors too. I think it’s East Asia standard

I actually wasn’t going to listen to this episode because it was about alcoholic beverages and I don’t drink alcohol… but I decided to listen to it for it’s other topics and I actually had a genuinely good time. The story about the first aid crew with the helmets made me laugh and think as if you were in some sort of futuristic anime at the time (and the story in general was humorous). The music you added was kind of catchy, and I actually picked up some Japanese words in the sound tour! Japanese people must be really friendly huh? (the people in the sound tour sounded nice, and I a lot of times hear people freely come up to you and make friendly conversation you in the sound tours, which can be a rarity back in the states depending on where you live…) Good episode!

This episode came out sounding really good. I knew what the splat was the first time I heard it, because I’ve been hearing similar sounds around here lately
I was listening to part of your walking segments while walking through my own slush, so it was kind of weird and disorienting to hear the squishing when I wasn’t stepping or dodging stuff.
And was it just me, or did your McDonalds worker sound quite happy? I don’t usually hear that pleasant a tone of voice in the ones around here.
